The solar propcaster
takes data from the Space Environment Center's website, and processes
it using a mathematical formula to determine the noise levels and
the likelyhood of propagation on higher frequency bands. The formula
is not highly accurate, but it can be used to determine whether
it is worth getting on the HF bands and giving a call.
The A in the propcaster format, stands for the A-Index,
and is followed by a number that is being reported by the Space
Environment Center. The A index is an indicator of geomagnetic
disturbances, which can severely disrupt communications on earth
and in space.
Flux stands for Solar Flux. The Solar Flux is an indicator
of solar activity and solar energy striking the Earth's surface.
K stands
for the K-Index. As with the A Index, the K Index
is also an indicator of geomagnetic disturbances, which can severely disrupt
communications on earth and in space.
