Donnie MacKay
GM3SYO
Date: September 2005
Donnie MacKay GM3SYO became a Silent Key in September
2005. His funeral took place in the Old Parish Church Wick on 27th
September after which Donnie was laid to rest in Wick Cemetry.
Donnie was not only a very active Radio Amateur, frequently
to be heard on 80 and 40 metres, he was also recognised for decades
as the "face" of amateur radio in Caithness. This was through
his ownership of the Ensign Shop in Wick High Street, a place where
you could get your local papers - or, more importantly, your copy
of Practical Wireless or Short Wave Magazine, and at the same time
have a chat with a fellow enthusiast.
