Mike / GM4SUC became a Silent Key on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st December 2005. His funeral took place at Masonhill Crematorium, Ayr on Wednesday 28th December.

Mike was a Radio Amateur who was well known and respected in Ayrshire, where he lived and was a longtime member of the Ayr Radio Club, where he was treasurer for 19 years, and member of Ayrshire Raynet.

Mike's name and callsign were known across the world in connection with the initiation and coordination of the International Lighthouse Weekend.

Mike's work background was in Air Traffic Control, having been one of the staff at the Atlantic Control in Prestwick.
